Today’s guest post is a poem by Jen Manglos
How long O Lord
Must women be told to shrink, that their mere presence is “too much”?
How long O Lord
Must toxic masculinity and white supremacy reign in the American Evangelical Church?
How long O Lord
Will calls and vocations be smashed under the heels of weak, insecure men?
How long O Lord
Will we have to work twice as hard to get half as far?
How long O Lord
Must we deal with lower pay and less respect?
How long O Lord
Will abuse and bullying be the norm for female pastors?
How long O Lord
Will our bodies be seen as a cause for sin?
How long O Lord
Must we be told by others that they don’t believe we should be pastoring simply for the crime of having a vagina?
How long O Lord
Will the feminine, who you created, be silenced in the church?
How long O Lord
Will the church grasp for power when our fear arises, rather than grasping for you?
How long O Lord
O Lord, the pain. It crushes the breath from our bodies, squeezes the hope from our lungs.
How long? No really. How long?
